Revision 317 is the foundation stone of the RuneScape private server scene. The 317 protocol dates to 2006-era RuneScape 2, and nearly two decades later it is still the most common RSPS base in existence — not out of nostalgia alone, but because 317 frameworks are the most documented, most forked and most battle-tested codebases in the community. Every server in the table above runs on a 317 base, ranked by live Discord population so you can see which communities are actually active before you download a client.

The modern 317 scene is more diverse than the revision number suggests. The classic split still holds: economy servers with working Grand Exchange-style trading, skilling and slow progression; PK servers where you spawn gear and fight in the wilderness within minutes; and spawn servers built for testing builds and casual fun. But the biggest evolution of the last decade is OSRS-data 317s — servers that keep the 317 protocol while loading Old School RuneScape item, NPC and map data, giving you modern OSRS content (raids, godwars expansions, slayer systems) on the classic engine. Many of the highest-population servers in this table are exactly that hybrid.

What separates a lasting 317 from a weekend project is content depth and economy integrity. Before investing time, check three things: whether the content the server advertises is genuinely custom-built or a stock framework with a new logo (reviews and a half hour in-game reveal this quickly); whether the economy is protected against dupes and staff-spawned items, which is what kills economy servers; and whether the population you see advertised matches the server’s Discord activity — the number this page ranks by, because it is the hardest signal to fake. Double experience weekends and vote-reward loops are standard in the scene; a server that needs neither to hold its population is usually the better long-term home.

If you are new to RSPS entirely: servers are free, most provide their own launcher or a browser client, and your RuneScape account is never involved. Pick a server from the table, join its Discord, and you can be in the wilderness — or at a skilling spot — inside ten minutes.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is a 317 RSPS?
A RuneScape private server built on the revision 317 protocol from 2006-era RuneScape 2. It is the most popular RSPS base ever: the frameworks are open, deeply documented and endlessly forked, so everything from spawn-PK servers to full economy worlds with OSRS content runs on a 317 core.
Why do most RuneScape private servers use revision 317?
Maturity. After nearly two decades, 317 codebases are the most stable and best-understood in the scene, and a huge share of RSPS development knowledge assumes them. Newer revisions exist (667, 718, OSRS-native), but 317 remains the default because it is the fastest path from idea to a working, moddable server.
Can a 317 server have OSRS content?
Yes — "OSRS-data 317s" keep the 317 protocol but load Old School RuneScape items, NPCs and maps. That is how you get modern content like raids and current bosses on the classic engine. Many of the largest servers in this ranking use exactly this setup.
What is the difference between economy, PK and spawn servers?
Economy servers make you earn items through skilling, PvM and trading — the closest to real RuneScape. PK servers focus on wilderness fighting with fast or instant gearing. Spawn servers let you create any item freely, which is fun for build-testing but removes progression. Each listing’s tags and description tell you which type it is.
Are RSPS free and safe to play?
Servers are free and run their own accounts — your official RuneScape login is never used. The practical safety rules: download clients only from the server’s own site or Discord, use a unique password, and prefer servers with large, verifiable communities like the ones ranked here by live Discord population.
