UO Topia is not a single shard but a set of them, each rebuilding a different point in Ultima Online's history so that a player picks an era rather than accepting whichever one the operator preferred. Two are currently live, one cloning Mondain's Legacy and one cloning the Time of Legends and Endless Journey period, which puts the project's active content at the later, expansion heavy end of the game. Four more are listed as temporarily offline, covering The Second Age twice, Age of Shadows and a custom hybrid, and the operator keeps their status published rather than leaving dead links on the page. The project relaunched in April 2025 and states plainly that it will rely on community support going forward.

Each shard is named for the era it clones, so the ruleset question is answered by which one you log into rather than by a single server wide setting. The live pair sit in the late expansion era, while the offline set reaches back to The Second Age and Age of Shadows.

Era Choice: The project runs several shards side by side so a player can choose the expansion era they want instead of settling for one ruleset.
Era Clones: Legends and Awakening are built as clones of Mondain's Legacy and of the Time of Legends and Endless Journey period rather than as loose interpretations.
Custom Shards: Origins and The New Age are the operator's own builds, one a custom take on The Second Age and one a hybrid across eras.
Published Status: The shard list carries a live or offline marker for each server, so players can see what is actually running before downloading anything.
