Nakama is a free World of Warcraft server built on the 2.4.3 client, which places it in The Burning Crusade with a level 70 cap. The project presents itself as a PvE server, and its content has been rolled out in stages rather than opened all at once, moving through Karazhan and Black Temple and on toward Sunwell Plateau. What separates it from most Burning Crusade realms is that the experience rate is not a fixed server setting. Each character can be tuned between x0.5 and x5 from inside the game, so a player who wants the original levelling pace and a player who wants to reach 70 quickly can share the same realm. The team posts development updates and bug fixes publicly, streams part of the work, and runs money contests and in game events alongside the regular content schedule.

The realm runs the 2.4.3 client and follows the Burning Crusade progression path, with raid content opened on a published schedule instead of being available from day one. Arena has its own season structure, and the third arena season opened on 3 June. Isle of Quel'Danas and its daily quests opened on 22 July, Magisters' Terrace followed on 5 August, and Sunwell Plateau is scheduled for 16 September. A hardcore mode with permadeath was added on 15 June for players who want the levelling run to carry real consequences, and Seal Twisting for Retribution Paladins was enabled on 22 July.

EXP Rate: Adjustable in game per character, from x0.5 up to x5

Adjustable Rates: Every character can have its experience rate raised or lowered from inside the game, so the levelling pace is a personal choice rather than a server wide setting.
Low Rate Rewards: Players who level on x0.5 or x1 receive rewards for taking the slower route.
Hardcore Mode: A permadeath mode added on 15 June, for players who want a single life run through Outland.
Transmogrification: Item appearance can be changed using magical rubies, so gear looks the way you want without giving up its stats.
Arena Seasons: Rated arena runs in seasons with resets, and 1v1 rated battles are offered alongside the standard brackets.
Events and Contests: The staff runs in game events and money contests, and publishes development progress and bug fixes as they land.
