Valanior is a custom World of Warcraft server that takes the Vanilla 1.12 client as its foundation and rebuilds the game on top of it using systems borrowed from retail WoW, Diablo 3 and modern ARPG design. The stated philosophy is to keep what made Classic special, meaning the open world, the sense of adventure and the social leveling experience, while replacing the parts of the 2006 design that have aged worst. The result looks like Vanilla and plays like something considerably newer.

The deepest change is to classes. Every class has been redesigned with four brand new specializations that preserve the Vanilla class identity while opening playstyles the original game never had, including tanking in cloth and healing built around melee. Layered on top of that is a Runes system giving each class over 300 unique runes. Runes drop through content progression, are graded from Common to Epic, and slot into multiple Combat and Utility slots, so itemization runs on two tracks rather than one. They can also be upgraded, traded and collected.

Endgame has been reworked to match. Classic raids such as Molten Core and Blackwing Lair have Mythic difficulty versions with revamped encounters and higher reward ceilings, and a full Mythic+ dungeon system lets groups scale dungeon difficulty upward at will for rewards beyond the base Heroic tier. Solo players are covered too, through a Companion System inspired by Diablo 3.

300+ Class Runes: Each class has over 300 unique runes ranging from Common to Epic quality, adding a layer of build customization that sits alongside gear rather than replacing it.

Mythic+ Dungeons: Player adjustable difficulty scaling for Classic dungeons, giving an escalating challenge ladder inside a Vanilla world.

AI Companion System: Solo players queueing for dungeons can recruit an AI companion in a DPS, Tank or Healer role that scales its power to match the character.
Death Knights From Level 1: Death Knights are playable from the first level with an entirely new skill set rather than starting at a boosted level.
Modern Stat Design: Haste reduces cooldowns, combo points are bound to the player instead of the target, Mastery and Versatility replace Hit and Expertise, and spells auto learn at max rank on level up.
Account Wide Progression: Mounts, achievements and reputation are shared across the account.
