Requiem

Type: Ultima Online Private Server

Requiem is a role-play enforced Ultima Online shard with a grimdark horror setting, and it has been running long enough that its lore now stretches back roughly a decade of in-world history. The setting deliberately strips out the high-fantasy furniture that most UO shards keep. There are no orcs and no dragons here; the world is built instead around plague, the dead, and what is left of a society thirty years after a catastrophe. In the shard's timeline the year is 1342 and the horror known as The Torment first appeared around three decades earlier, which is the event the current world is still living in the shadow of. Role-play is enforced rather than encouraged, and the shard pairs that with a full permadeath system, so the two halves of the design reinforce each other: characters matter because they can be lost.

Permadeath: Character death is permanent, which is the mechanical backbone of the shard's horror framing rather than a hardcore side mode.
Six separated stats: The stat system is rebuilt into six independent stats instead of UO's standard three.
Custom magic and skills: The magic and skill systems are original to the shard rather than adapted from a stock era.
Custom crafting, combat and experience systems: All three core systems have been rewritten to fit the setting.
Custom maps: The world uses its own maps rather than the retail facets.
Custom art, gumps and sound: The shard ships its own artwork, interface gumps, sounds and music.
