Empire in Flames is a Pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies server that has been running since 2017, and it is one of the few emulator projects that moved its story forward instead of freezing it. The timeline sits after the destruction of the second Death Star, so the factional conflict is Empire against the New Republic rather than the Rebellion, and the content the team writes follows from that premise. Its profession system is not a straight Pre-CU restore either: the team rebuilt it as a hybrid that keeps Pre-CU depth while borrowing structure from the NGE, splitting trees into professions that cost no skill points but require experience to level, and skills that spend points as usual. On top of that sits a large body of original content, including custom planets, playable species, heroics, themeparks and quest lines that never existed in the retail game.

Hybrid Profession System: Trees are split into professions, which cost no skill points but need experience to advance, and skills, which spend points the Pre-CU way.
Jedi Through Alignment: The Schisms of the Force update added a Jedi unlock system built around alignment rather than the retail holocron grind.
Custom Planets And Species: The server adds planets and a large list of playable species beyond the retail roster.
Custom Heroics And Themeparks: Original heroic encounters, themeparks and quest chains are written for the post Death Star II setting.
Space Combat: Space content is active, with new zones such as Taanab and an ion encumbrance system that changes how ship loadouts are built.
Seasonal Events: Empire and Remembrance Day, the Great Egg Hunt, Boonta Eve Celebration and the Taanab Harvest run on a recurring calendar, each with its own event currency and reward track.
Unlimited Event Participation: The team states players may take part in events as many times as they want, so event rewards are a time investment rather than a lottery.
Broad Audience Design: The project was designed from the start for roleplayers, PvE players, PvPers and pilots rather than optimising for one of them.
Announced Roadmap: Jump to Lightspeed content with new ships, a Mandalorian Enclave and an Underworld faction are named as upcoming additions.
