Project Legacy is a Vanilla+ World of Warcraft server built on the original 1.12 client and the VMaNGOS core, aimed at expanding the Classic experience rather than replacing it. Instead of layering a completely new game on top of Vanilla, the team adds carefully designed content and quality of life changes while keeping the core identity of 1.12 intact, including over 150 new handcrafted quests and cross-faction grouping, guilds and communication that Vanilla never offered. The goal, in the team's own words, is to build the long-term Classic home many players have wanted for years, one that respects Vanilla's gameplay while thoughtfully expanding the world instead of replacing it, with progression that carries on long term and no seasonal resets to restart from.

Project Legacy opened its beta on July 17 with a substantial rework of underperforming Vanilla specializations, giving players viable builds that Blizzard never balanced in the original 1.12 patch. Dual Specialization lets characters carry two builds at once, and the reworked specs include Retribution Paladin, Protection Paladin, Balance Druid, Shadow Priest and Survival Hunter.

150+ New Quests: Hundreds of handcrafted quests add content on top of the original Vanilla quest lines.
Cross-Faction Play: Grouping, guilds and communication work across the Horde/Alliance divide, which the original Vanilla client did not support.
Dual Specialization: Characters can maintain two specs and swap between them instead of respeccing at the trainer every time.
Prestige Mode: An optional progression system that lets players replay the leveling journey with unique challenges and cosmetic rewards.
Lorewalker Mode: A second optional replay mode alongside Prestige Mode, also built around cosmetic rewards rather than power.
War Mode: An optional PvP toggle for players who want open-world conflict.
No Seasonal Resets: Character progression is long-term, with no planned wipe to restart the server's economy or levels.
