Vetus Mundus is a German run Ultima Online freeshard that has been online since 2004, which puts it among the longest lived shards still accepting new accounts. It is self financed and free to play, and the team has kept it current with the client rather than freezing it at one era: the world carries all facets and content through Stygian Abyss and High Seas, and both the Classic and the Enhanced client can connect. On top of that base the shard runs a substantial amount of its own content, including systems that never existed in retail UO. The ruleset splits the world the traditional way, with PvE available everywhere and open PvP confined to Felucca, and roleplay areas are set aside for players who want them without making roleplay compulsory.
