Is Hytale Multiplayer? How to Join a Hytale Server and Play With Friends
Yes, Hytale is multiplayer. Here is how to play Hytale with friends, how to join a Hytale server by address or from the in-game browser, where to find a Hytale server list, and how to pick a PvP or survival server that suits you.
Is Hytale multiplayer? Yes. When Hypixel Studios released Hytale into early access in January 2026, multiplayer support for all modes was part of the launch, and community servers have been a core part of the game ever since. This guide explains how to play Hytale multiplayer with friends, how to join a Hytale server, where to find a Hytale server list, and what to look for in a Hytale PvP server or any other type of server you might want to call home.
A quick note before we start: this is not a ranking. We do not name a "best" server, and nothing below is a paid placement. Where we link to our Hytale server list, Featured and Supreme listings are paid and may appear first, so compare the details yourself.
Is Hytale multiplayer? Three ways to play together
Hytale gives you three broad ways to play with other people. They are not exclusive, and most players end up using more than one.
- Play in a friend's world. The simplest option. One player hosts a world and invites friends into it, and everyone builds, explores and fights together. This is the closest thing to a private co-op session.
- Join a community server. Community servers are always-on worlds run by players or independent teams. They range from small survival worlds with a handful of regulars to large networks with minigames, custom progression and events.
- Run your own server. If you want a persistent world for a group, a community or a project, you can host a dedicated server yourself or rent one from a hosting company, and decide the mods and rules.
All three run on the official game. Unlike private servers for older MMORPGs, which emulate a game outside its publisher's control, a Hytale community server is simply a server running the real game with its own configuration. It is independent from Hypixel Studios, though, so the people running it set the rules, not the developer.
How to play Hytale multiplayer with friends
If you only want to play with people you know, you do not need a public server at all. Hytale's social features let you see your friends from the main menu, invite them into your world and join theirs directly. Invites and share codes are the quickest way to get a small group into the same world.
The trade-off is that a friend's world is only online while its host is playing. If your group plays at different times, or you want the world to keep running when the host logs off, a dedicated server is the better fit. Many groups start in one player's world and move to a rented server once the build gets serious.
How to join a Hytale server
Joining a community server takes a minute once you know where to look. There are two routes.
Joining by address
- Find the server's address. Most servers publish it on their website or in their Discord, often in a channel called something like "how to join".
- Launch Hytale and open the servers menu from the main menu.
- Choose the option to add a server, give the entry a name you will recognise, and paste the full address, including the port if the server lists one.
- Save the entry and connect. The server stays in your list, so next time you can join with a click.
Joining from Server Discovery
Since Update 5, released in May 2026, Hytale has an in-game Server Discovery page. You can browse community-run servers, search by title or description, filter by tags, see how many players have liked or favourited a server, and keep a recently played list. Some servers are featured by the Hytale team. Servers appear there only after their owners submit a profile and pass a manual review against Hytale's server owner policies, so not every server is listed in it.
If a connection fails, check the address for typos first, then the server's Discord for maintenance notices or whitelist requirements. Some servers ask you to register on their website or link a Discord account before you can play.
Do you need mods to join?
Usually not. Hytale was designed so that a lot of modding happens on the server side, which means many modded servers work without you installing anything. If a server does ask for extra files, download them only from the link on the operator's own website, never from a random mirror, and read what you are installing.
Hytale server list: where to find servers
There are three common ways to find servers:
- In-game Server Discovery. Convenient and built into the game, but limited to servers that have applied and been approved, and to the information in each profile.
- Server lists on the web. A Hytale server list lets you read longer descriptions, check player reviews and see community activity before you launch the game. On Nostalgic's Hytale page you can search by name or keyword, sort by trending, Discord activity, rating or newest, and open each server's page for its description, reviews and links to its website and Discord.
- Word of mouth and Discord. Creators, friends and community Discords are still how many players discover smaller servers.
A note on numbers: the Discord activity shown on our listings describes each server's community, meaning members and activity on its Discord. It is not a count of players connected to the game right now. Treat it as one signal among several.
Hytale PvP servers: what to expect
A Hytale PvP server is any server where fighting other players is a central part of the experience, and the term covers very different setups:
- Survival PvP. Open-world survival where other players can attack you, sometimes with protected zones around towns or bases.
- Faction and clan servers. Groups claim land, build defences and fight over territory or resources.
- Arena and minigame PvP. Short matches in prepared maps, with no long-term progression to lose.
- Optional PvP. Mostly peaceful servers where PvP is limited to specific areas, events or players who opt in.
Because every team configures its own server, read the rules before you join. Check whether building is protected, whether raiding is allowed, how combat logging is handled and whether the server shop sells anything that affects fights. Reviews from other players are often the quickest way to learn how fair a PvP server feels in practice.
If PvP is not your thing, the same advice applies to survival, roleplay, creative and minigame servers: the label tells you the genre, the description and rules tell you how it actually plays.
How to choose the best Hytale server for you
The best Hytale server is the one that fits how you like to play, not the one with the biggest numbers. A short checklist helps:
- Decide on the mode first. Survival, PvP, minigames, roleplay or creative. Search server names for that keyword (many servers include their mode in the name) and compare several servers side by side.
- Read the description and rules. Look for what mods the server uses, how progression works and what is allowed.
- Check reviews. Other players will tell you how responsive the staff is and whether the server is stable.
- Look at the community. An active Discord with recent announcements suggests the team is still investing in the server.
- Consider language and location. If you want a community in your language or a low ping, check where the server is hosted and which language the staff uses.
- Understand the shop. Many servers fund themselves through a store. Some sell only cosmetics; others sell items or ranks with gameplay effects.
Try two or three servers for an evening each before you commit. Small servers with a dedicated core of players can be more welcoming than large networks, and the opposite is true for players who want constant action.
Staying safe on community servers
Community servers are run by independent teams, so a few habits keep you safe:
- Download extra files only from the operator's official website.
- Never share your Hytale account details with a server, and be cautious with any site that asks for them.
- Use a unique password for any server website account.
- Read the server's privacy and shop policies before paying for anything.
Start playing
Hytale is very much a multiplayer game, whether that means a weekend build with friends, a long-running survival community or a competitive PvP server. Browse the Hytale server list, compare descriptions and reviews, and open each server's page to find its website and Discord. If you enjoy server communities built around older games too, our guides to games like WoW and games like RuneScape cover the classic MMORPG side of the directory.
