Elantharil is a German-language Ultima Online freeshard built for roleplay first, with its mechanics rewritten to reward it. The world is hand-made rather than a copy of a Britannia era, and it ships with its own written background of stories, legends, in-world reports and player-maintained libraries that the shard treats as canon. Character development is tied directly to how much roleplay a player actually does, so the progression curve follows the fiction instead of a grind. The staff have also begun placing AI-driven NPCs into the world, starting with a southern merchant and a healer in the capital, so that ordinary encounters can remember a player and carry rumours forward.

Elantharil does not replicate a specific Ultima Online publish. It is a custom ruleset with its own combat, magic and crafting systems, set in a world split into three regions that also structure the shard's story forums: the North, the Empire and the South. Races work the same way, with no fixed fantasy races and instead several human peoples that each carry their own culture.

Farming and cooking: Over 100 plants are farmable, feeding a detailed cooking and brewing system.
Class system: A multi-layered class system with specialisations, rather than a flat skill build.
Player-driven economy: Trade is global and runs without NPC vendors, so goods move between players.
AI-driven NPCs: Named NPCs such as the merchant Sari al Tenere and the healer Elya Rosenhain react to players, remember encounters and pass rumours on.
ElaStarter launcher: The shard ships its own launcher, which includes a classic UO client and receives regular fixes.
