UO WOS is a custom era Ultima Online shard, which means it does not attempt to reproduce a specific historical Ultima Online ruleset such as Renaissance or Age of Shadows. It is listed as Custom on the ServUO shard portal and the team builds its own systems on top of the emulator rather than freezing the game at a chosen patch.

The clearest departure from standard Ultima Online is progression itself. The shard runs a 100 level system, so characters advance through levels in addition to the traditional skill based advancement that Ultima Online normally uses on its own. That is a structural change rather than a tuning one, and it is the first thing the team leads with when describing the shard.

Content is split across both sides of the game, with the shard advertising PvP and PvM alongside each other rather than committing to one.
