Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Ragnarok Online private server?▾
A Ragnarok Online private server is a community-run, free-to-play version of Ragnarok Online hosted independently from the official publisher. Players run the original client and connect to these servers to enjoy the game with custom rates, classic episodes, or unique features. Most Ragnarok Online private servers listed on Nostalgic.gg are completely free — donations are optional and almost always limited to cosmetics or convenience items.
How do I connect to a Ragnarok Online private server?▾
On Nostalgic.gg, click any Ragnarok Online server to open its detail page, then use the "Play" or "Connect" button. You will be taken to the server's official site where you'll find the client download, registration form and detailed connection guide. Most Ragnarok Online private servers also publish step-by-step setup videos and have an active Discord with helpers ready to walk new players through their first login.
Are Ragnarok Online private servers safe to play?▾
The reputable Ragnarok Online private servers listed on Nostalgic.gg have been running for months or years with active communities — that public track record is the strongest safety signal. Always download the client only from the server's official site, run a virus scan, and never share your account password. Real Discord population (which we display live) and verified community reviews help you tell legitimate Ragnarok Online servers from scams.
What's the difference between pre-renewal and renewal Ragnarok Online servers?▾
pre-renewal, renewal, classic are the main episodes players choose between for Ragnarok Online private servers. Each episode changes the meta, balance, and content available — for example, pre-renewal servers usually focus on a specific era of the game, while renewal servers include later content. Use Nostalgic.gg's filters to find Ragnarok Online servers by episode (pre-renewal, renewal, classic) and pick the era that matches your nostalgia.
How do I choose the best Ragnarok Online private server for me?▾
Start with the live Discord population on each Nostalgic.gg listing — it's the single best signal of a healthy Ragnarok Online server. Then narrow down by episode (pre-renewal, renewal, classic), rates, and language. Read the community reviews, check the 30-day population trend to make sure the server isn't dying, and join the Discord before you commit. The best Ragnarok Online private server is always the one whose community matches your playstyle.
What does the Discord online count mean on Ragnarok Online server listings?▾
Every Ragnarok Online server listing on Nostalgic.gg shows the live number of online members in that server's official Discord — pulled directly from Discord's API, not self-reported. It's a far more reliable activity signal than the player counts servers report themselves, since those are often inflated. A Ragnarok Online private server with thousands of online Discord members is almost always actively played and well-moderated.
